IMPORTANT:

As of today, I am seizing operation of Extreme Electronics. I have poured my heart into the business for close to 20 years and quite frankly have had enough. Between manufacturers making it difficult to simply conduct business and technology that is half baked and released to the public to be the beta testers, I am burnt out. While the majority of my clients are good, the bad ones weigh heavily on me and create health issues that I no longer wish to endure.

A little story about when I changed my thought process on how I interact and treat my clients. Going back just over 6 years now, I had a client in which I installed a home theater in his basement. This was ALL that we did in his house. He had an existing system, however I never worked with it or even touched it. This client called, texted and or emailed every night for 2 to 3 months AFTER 10 pm complaining about various portions of his system, and even things in the house that had nothing to do with his smart home system. For example, I had angry texts about a vent fan in a bathroom that was on a regular switch, not integrated into his system that we never touched. This was on the 3rd floor of the house, and we worked in the basement. I mention this only as a means to paint a picture of how this individual was and the boundaries he continually crossed. I dealt with him, answered what and when I could, and still tried to maintain a professional relationship. However, on the night I changed my thought process on how I conduct business, this client did the same calling, texting, and emailing, over and over. I was receiving a text AND phone call every 30 seconds to a minute for a good half hour or more. His issue was that his Netflix did not work. As you can see, a real emergency. As it turns out, there was a national outage and I could not fix the issue even if I was able to look into it. The reason I did not respond quickly enough for him however, I was at the hospital for my son’s birth, my first child. I finally got back and let him know where I was, and why I was unavailable, and his response was “that is unacceptable, I need this fixed ASAP!!!!” He added a few choice words I won’t add here. Then and there, my desire to please clients, and my joy to work on A/V and home automation died. It’s been 6 years and I have had a handful of clients that are close to the same level. It does not matter if I try to set boundaries, they just ignore them. While there are things that you can do, like using outside services for all communications, I just don’t have it in me to deal with people like this anymore. To those that have always been a good client, thank you. I appreciate you and wish you all the best of luck. For my own health and piece of mind, however, I will not be continuing in this business.
